Deep underneath St. Anthony Falls lies a secret – a hidden dam, 1850 feet long and 40 ft high, that provides much of the water supply to the Twin Cities. It lies under the Mississippi River, beneath the limestone and shale riverbed. For over 144 years it has withstood the relentless demands of nature to finish its task. What is the history behind the dam? How much longer will it last? What would be the ramifications if it fell? Called the "orphan hazard," no one agency is taking responsibility for the wall. Join us as we hear about the wall from John Anfinson, former Mississippi Park Superintendent and river historian, and Peter Callaghan, who covered the story for MinnPost. In writing the article, Peter brought forward this scary situation to our attention.
