Educational attainment and achievement are two of the most important indicators of a person’s ability to not only survive but thrive in today’s society. But for many children who are black, indigenous or people of color (BIPOC), educational disparities make it almost impossible for them to escape from poverty. Sondra Samuels, President and CEO of Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ), will be educating us about the proposed Page Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution. This amendment, first proposed by former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page and Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari, seeks to address persistent education disparities by establishing a civil right to quality public education for all Minnesotans, challenging the status quo of the caste system we have inherited and maintain.
