As we move into one of the most historic and divisive elections our country has experienced, Move for America proposes an intergenerational conversation with our members about how pivotal historical events have shaped our individual lives and perspectives. Seated in small groups of “youngers” and “olders, our dialogue will allow all to share their unique experiences and insights and foster deeper generational understanding. Similar to powerful conversations MCC has hosted in past with young men from the North Side, our members who are always striving to learn will 1) be part of conversation with young people to whom they are not related, 2) better understand the experiences and perspectives of young people from other cultures and 3) help catalyze a generation of young emerging leaders build their muscle at fostering civic dialogue.

Gun violence is a public health issue that has reached epidemic proportions. The most recent data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed firearms were the leading cause of death among children 1-19 years old. The Minnesota Department of Health reports that in the last decade almost 80% of firearm deaths in Minnesota were suicides.

While the data is overwhelming, there has been progress and still many evidence-based solutions available to us that can make our communities safer. Join us as we hear from Maggiy Emery, Executive Director of Protect Minnesota, who will get us up to speed on this important issue.

Protect Minnesota was founded in 1991 as a coalition of 16 statewide groups committed to working together to prevent gun violence. Its mission is to prevent gun violence through engagement, advocacy, and community led solutions.

The recently negotiated High Seas Treaty, also known as the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction treaty, will attempt to address these issues. How difficult will it be to convince nations to participate?
