About this event
As we age, we sometimes worry about the loss of cognitive abilities in ourselves and others, especially if we see family and friends with diminished cognition. We hope for a full and healthy retirement. But what happens if cognitive abilities are impaired?
This presentation, expanded from the well-attended presentation in June at the Men’s Breakfast, will help us understand what happens to our minds as we age. It describes a collaborative approach to working with professionals, including testing. And it discusses what normal aging looks like, when to be concerned, and how to boost our mental health. What are the different forms of cognitive impairment and what do they mean for us as individuals and family members?
Our speaker for this program is MCC member Richard Lentz. Richard retired in 2014 as a Consultant in Psychiatry at Park Nicollet and Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the U of M. His psychiatric practice included geriatric patients and patients with neurological illness. He published a novel, "Accidental Journey," about a family dealing with traumatic brain injury.
This is part of MCC's Vital Aging Program Series.
