About this event
Dr. Jed Gorlin, an internationally recognized expert in blood banking, has worked with the CDC to help improve blood safety in Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Around the world, access to safe blood is critical for surgeries, childbirth, and emergency care, yet many countries face challenges such as outdated equipment, limited lab testing, inconsistent donor screening, and insufficiently trained staff. Through PEPFAR—one of the U.S. government’s major global health initiatives—countries receive vital support to strengthen blood-safety systems and infection-control practices. Dr. Gorlin will share insights from his recent work in Central Asia and what it takes to make blood transfusions safer worldwide.
