About this event
In 2024, more than 1-1½ million people walked part or all of one of the ancient pilgrimage routes in Spain and Portugal called the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. More than 50,000 pilgrims walked on the Via Francigena through Europe towards Rome. Pilgrimage has captured the imagination of the Western world in a way not seen since the Middle Ages. What is behind this phenomenon? Why are walking pilgrimages, especially the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, attracting hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year? Join us as MCC member Cheryl Grasmoen will address these questions and present an overview of a number of European pilgrimages with special focus on the Camino.
MCC member Cheryl Grasmoen served for six years as President and Board Member of American Pilgrims on the Camino, a 3,000 member national organization dedicated to encouraging pilgrims, providing support to the Camino infrastructure and creating a community of past and future pilgrims through 60 chapters throughout the U.S.
