Dressed and Ready to Go

Part of living a full and active life includes what happens outside the home that engages the senses, enlivens the conversation, opens the mind to new, interesting, even controversial points of view. At Mill City Commons, we work hard with our members to populate our calendar with programs and events that are interesting, inviting, satisfying and exciting.

A shortlist of activities provides a sampling of our member-designed programs and events:

Hiking/Bicycling – Enjoy the great outdoors on a member-led hike or bicycle ride and then gather to relax over a hearty lunch at a local restaurant. All abilities welcome!

Educational Programs – Cultural and educational programs and tours feature area experts on topics of interest to members, ranging from music, art and architecture to technology, politics and history.

Strength Training – Build strength, range of motion and balance at 501 Fit strength-training classes. Regardless of your ability, you won’t be intimidated and you’ll have fun using state-of-the-art exercise equipment in a small class with one-on-one coaching. Affordable classes are offered six days a week, so members may participate when it fits their schedule.

Common Table Dinners and Happy Hours – Spend an evening dining with member friends at our monthly, hosted dining table. This is a Dutch-treat dining experience that features a friendly table and unique service at one of our many nearby restaurants. We also feature member happy hours at nearby bars and restaurants.

Health & Wellness Educational Programs – Each month we provide health and wellness educational programs that feature health and wellness on a variety of topics, including Medicare, supplemental and long-term care insurance, brain fitness and integrative healing.

Great Decisions Discussion Group – Coordinated by the Minnesota International Center and sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, you join with neighbors to learn about the world through the longest running, largest grass-roots world affairs education program in the country

Ideas lead to programs

Any interest in poker? What about digital photography or watercolor? Can you catch a glimpse of a Bald Eagle above the river during spring migrations? Let us know what you would like and we’ll organize activities and interest groups to meet your desires.

Some of the programs currently on our drawing board include:

  • Group Singing – Can’t sing? Can sing? It doesn’t matter! All members could join in a regular group-singing event to make beautiful music with neighbors.
  • Introduction to Yoga – Are you a yoga neophyte? Participate in our introduction to yoga session and find out if it’s a fit.
  • Play Reading Group – Read aloud from the great works of Shakespeare, the dramas of Arthur Miller or the light comedy of Neil Simon. Regardless of your time on the stage (or lack thereof), your inner-thespian will delight in an enjoyable evening of reading. No acting required!
  • Bridge – Sit down at the table and pick up your cards for a game of bridge. Who knows? Member interest may drive us to offer duplicate bridge!
